PROJECT
Just as plants must adapt to the harsh desert environment in Arizona, homes must also respond to the sun and the land. Upon deciding on a move to the Phoenix area, a couple with grown children, together with Kathleen Bost Architecture + Design selected a piece of land with unobstructed desert views to the north and road access to the south. The resulting 4,600 square foot home has broad windows opening to the northern views from the shared living spaces, while the southern façade has smaller windows to create privacy and minimize heat gain. Walled and shaded patios nestle between main rooms invite cool breezes.
