We at Kathleen Bost Architecture + Design have a mission to help our clients discover and fulfill their goals for their built environments in a way that brings beauty, and good design to everyday life. The founding vision for Kathleen Bost Architecture + Design was to combine architecture and interior design seamlessly. Details such as artwork, furniture, movement through and use of space are thought about during the big picture, conceptual and structural phases of the project. We work on the large scale, designing homes from the ground-up, or renovating and repurposing existing structures, as well as the small scale, crafting custom furniture pieces and curating art and accessories to suit our clients’ particular needs and visions.
A full service architectural and interior design firm based in San Francisco, we believe in teamwork and collaboration. We work hand in hand with home owners, businesses, contractors, fabricators, and engineers. We believe in getting the big picture right first, then delving into the craft of the small details to ensure that all parts and pieces support the vision for the whole.
Each client is unique, so, each design solution is unique. Good architecture is built upon relationships: between client and architect, between design and context, between dream and professional knowledge. Successful projects begin with listening to clients, seeing their vision, and understanding what they want from their built environments.
Kathleen Bost, AIA | Principal
All her life, Kathleen has toggled between math and artistic pursuits. Architecture has served as a blend of both. Kathleen received her architecture degree from the University of Texas in 1991 and began her professional career in the architecturally rich city of Chicago. After moving to San Francisco, she founded Kathleen Bost Architecture + Design in 2007. Kathleen loves all things design, big and small, from the Golden Gate Bridge to beautiful hardware.
Matthew Marsten | Project Architect
A Bay Area native, Matthew was raised in Napa Valley, a region known for its world class food and wine. After training as a patisserie chef and working in the world of culinary arts and wine, Matthew began his pursuits in architecture at the Harvard GSD architecture program. He received his graduate degree from Southern California Institute of Architecture, which galvanized his aesthetic approach bridging the modern and traditional.
Stacy Elizondo | Project Designer
After receiving her interior design degree from Indiana State, Stacy began her career in Chicago designing commercial and residential projects. In search of new environs, in 2011 she moved to San Francisco and joined Kathleen Bost Architecture + Design. Stacy’s discerning eye for detail and love for vintage furniture leads her to scour the internet and browse local antique markets in search of the perfect pieces for projects.
Lauren Negro | Office Manager
Lauren received her degree from Bradley University and has lived all over the Midwest, as well as Atlanta and Brazil. Perhaps due to the trial by fire of having triplets, Lauren has developed an uncanny organizational ability and attempts to keep everyone in line by managing human resources, bookkeeping and operations.
Maria Gistrand | Graphic Designer
A graphic designer with more than 20 years of helping make the print and virtual world a more beautiful place, Maria assists our team with photography, our website and presentations. Maria has a wandering spirit and has lived in Sweden, Germany, Argentina and the US. English is her third (but preferred) language.
Our office is located at 1943 Divisadero Street, San Francisco CA 94115
between California and Pine. Stop by and say hello.
